Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

This Level 2 qualification will appeal to those who use an Sit In and Sit-astride ATV. You may be working in agriculture, grounds maintenance, outdoor events or use the ATV for recreational use. The minimum age limit for candidates taking this qualification is 16 years. This does not replace any legal requirement for a driving licence.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and be dressed appropriately in work type clothing including toughened work trousers and safety footwear (not wellington boots or trainers) and bring a waterproof coat and reading glasses (if required).

This is a Level 2 qualification, which is independently assessed. The price of the course includes the cost of the assessment. However your assessment slot needs to be booked by our office team on a date following your course. We have assessors pre-booked to cover this course.

This is a nationally recognised vocational qualification in the land-based sector, Equivalent to a Level 2 academic qualification like GCSEs.

The qualification is assessed through practical assessments that involve direct observation and questioning by an approved assessor.

Additional information

Please email the office with a site contact name, number and what3words reference. Please inform us of any site security requirements one week prior to your course.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical, we will require an ATV Sit Astride quad bike and Sit - In vehicle which are fully fuelled or charged [the make and model to be shared ahead of the course] with full instruction manual, together with a suitable outdoor space, with some varying terrain for the practical element of the course.

For PPE, candidates will need a high viz top, safety helmet with clear visor and safety gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • State legal and safety requirements relating to the use of ATV’s
  • Carry out appropriate pre-start checks on the ATV
  • Take appropriate action arising from checks
  • Conduct a risk assessment of the task to be undertaken
  • Explain additional considerations that need to be made when riding an ATV with a trailer attachment
  • Start ATV and prepare for work
  • Select and wear appropriate PPE
  • Handle the ATV safely on rough terrain including slopes
  • Attach trailer or trailed attachment securely to the ATV
  • Manoeuvre vehicle in a variety of terrain whilst towing, including reversing round a corner
  • State the required underpinning knowledge that supports the operation.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
  • >16 years old
