This is a one day LANTRA training course followed by a Level 2 NPTC City & Guilds assessment. It is suitable for those who intend to use mounted or trailed dispersal systems to distribute slug pellets. Granular applicators help to control insects, weeds and diseases. They are cheap and efficient – but only when used correctly. Using the correct product and settings is vital, making training a key requirement. Price includes assessment.

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

Our course is aimed at anyone using, or looking to use a vehicle-mounted or trailed applicator to apply professional pesticide products in industries like agriculture, horticulture and forestry.

Please bring photographic proof of ID and City & Guilds number (if held). To obtain your City & Guilds individual candidate number please call 02476 857300.

Greenway Training will provide the PPE & equipment.

Candidates need to hold a PA1 certificationin order to be able to attend.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and be dressed appropriately in work type clothing and bring a waterproof coat, wellington boots and reading glasses (if required).

This is a Level 2 qualification, which is independently assessed. The price of the course includes the cost of the assessment. However your assessment slot needs to be booked by our office team on a date following your course. We have assessors pre-booked to cover this course.

This is a nationally recognised vocational qualification in the land-based sector, Equivalent to a Level 2 academic qualification like GCSEs.

The qualification is assessed through a combination of written examinations and practical assessments that involve direct observation and questioning by an approved assessor.

Additional information

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

Please ensure that there is a granular and slug pellet machines [either mounted or trailed] available. We will also require a covered area for maintenance and calibration of the machines together with a large outdoor space for the practical, an area of at least 50m X 100m. Please ensure a supply of placebo pellets.

PPE comprising of spray coveralls, measuring jugs, scales, wellington boots, 30cm nitrile gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • Identify and describe how granular applicators work
  • Prepare and set up granular applicators
  • Choose and use the correct type of applicator for a given product and situation
  • Set and check the application rate for an application
  • Fill the applicator accurately and safely
  • Operate the applicator safely and efficiently
  • Decontaminate the machinery safely
  • Service the machinery
  • Select the correct PPE when using granules
  • Clean and store machinery correctly
  • Accurately record information.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
  • >16 years old
  • Hold a Level 2 certificate in the Safe Use of Peticides (PA1)
  • Be able to proficiently operate and drive the appropriate vehicle.
