They are used extensively across many sectors. Our qualification will help you build on the skills and experience you already possess. It will give you the chance to obtain a competency card to open up job opportunities in your chosen sector. For professional chainsaw operators working in forestry and arboriculture the industry recommendation is that for ’high risk‘ activities the minimum level of adequacy of training is to a certificate of competence or nationally recognised qualification where assessment is carried out independently of the training. Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

If you wish to develop your knowledge, understanding, and skills and require proof of competence within your field of expertise then this course is suitable for you. Your role may require you to use your skills across a range of trees and timber operations.

The qualification aims to ensure you can be confident the minimum standards of good working practices are observed/followed at all times. The qualification has been devised with the key aim for you, the learner to successfully evidence your competence in forestry and arboriculture operations.

Greenway Training will provide the equipment. Candidates need to bring a safety helmet with mesh visor (or separate safety goggles), ear defenders, toughened work trousers or chainsaw trousers, gloves, protective footwear (with good grip and protective guarding at front vamp and instep, NOT wellington boots or trainers) and a waterproof coat.

PPE is available to hire at our Wiltshire site at £12.50 + VAT per day, please let us know ahead of the course if you need to hire PPE.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and bring a waterproof coat and reading glasses (if required).

This is a Level 2 qualification, which is independently assessed. The price of the course includes the cost of the assessment. However your assessment slot needs to be booked by our office team on a date following your course. We have assessors pre-booked to cover this course.

This is a nationally recognised vocational qualification in the land-based sector, Equivalent to a Level 2 academic qualification like GCSEs.

The qualification is assessed through a combination of written examinations. which are often multiple-choice tests, and practical assessments that involve direct observation and questioning by an approved assessor. The specific combination depends on the qualification, with some being purely theory-based (PA1) while others, like the forestry certificates, require a practical demonstration of skills.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

Please ensure that there is a workshop type space with benches for the maintenance element together with a supply of suitable tools.

In addition, for the practical, please ensure suitable timber lengths for cutting; the trainer will require a minimum of X4 lengths per candidate place.

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
