Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

This course is for those who have previously attended a Chainsaw Maintenance, Crosscutting & Felling course and/or hold a Level 2 qualification and needing to complete refresher training as set out in the Chainsaws at Work INDG317 document.

Please bring photographic proof of ID and Lantra ID number (if held).

Candidates need to bring PPE and a chainsaw with a bar length of no longer than 15", please refer to the kit list for a full list of items.

This is available to hire at our Wiltshire site at £25.00 + VAT per day (excluding the personal first aid bleed kit). Please let us know ahead of the course if you need to hire. Please note it is mandatory to bring a personal first aid bleed kit, if candidates arrive without one they will be required to purchase a STEIN Personal Bleed Control Kit at a cost of £45 +VAT.

Candidates need to have previously attended the Chainsaw Maintenance, Crosscutting & Felling course and/or hold CS30 & CS31 qualification.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and bring a waterproof coat and reading glasses if required. Please note refresher courses will not cover all aspects in the same detail as a course of a longer duration.

Lantra "training only" course. This Lantra-certified course that focuses on imparting knowledge and skills through training without a formal assessment. Unlike courses leading to a full qualification, these programs provide a certificate of completion, but the learner is not tested for a specific qualification or accreditation. They are a great option for formal refresher trianing.

Additional information

Please email the office with a site contact name, number and what3words reference. Please inform us of any site security requirements one week prior to your course.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical element, please ensure that there is a workspace with vices [at least one vice per two candidates], maintenance tools and a supply of fallen timber for the crosscutting.

In relation to the felling practical, we will require at least X8 trees per candidate of varying diameter (50-380mm) with full vehicular access to the woodlands in case of an emergency.

Candidates will need to bring PPE and chainsaw with a bar length of no more than 15", please refer to the kit list for a full list of items. Candidates will also need to have a personal first aid bleed kit.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • By the end of this course, you will have updated your skills and knowledge of chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting, and felling trees up to 380mm.
  • You will also be able to demonstrate that you have refreshed your original training, in line with HSE guidance documents.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
  • >16 years old
  • Candidates need to have previously attended a Chainsaw Maintenance, Crosscutting & Felling course and/or hold a Level 2 qualification.
  • Specified Kit and PPE detailed on attached list.
