Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

Whether you are an employee or self-employed and work in a controlled environment, our course is for you. It is especially important if you are carrying out repetitive tasks that involve manual handling.

Please bring photographic proof of ID and City & Guilds number (if held). To obtain your City & Guilds individual candidate number please call 02476 857300.

Greenway Training will provide the equipment.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start.

Candidates should wear practical clothing and footwear and bring reading glasses if required.

This is an Integrated Training and Assessment (ITA) course, meaning the training and final assessment are combined into a single course. The instructor provides instruction and practice, and then assesses the learner's skills during the course itself, so there is no separate, independent assessment to gain the qualification.

On successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded an electronic certificate. These are sent to your booking co-ordinator within 10 working days. Candidates can access all their certificates on LANTRA's Learner Hub. https://www.lantra.co.uk/learner-hub

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical element of this course, we will different equipment for lifting techniques of varying weight. The practical area needs to be level and free of any obstacles.

For PPE, candidates will need a high viz top and gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • State the principles of safe lifting to minimise risk of injury
  • Be aware of parts of your body that are at risk of injury due to poor handling techniques and understand common injuries and how they occur
  • Better recognise the risks of manual handling and how to help reduce them in your workplace
  • States the principles of correct lifting technique to minimise risk of injuries
  • List the parts of your body that are at risk of injury due to poor handling techniques and understand muscle and disc injuries and how they occur
  • Lift, carry and lower loads within your 'personal capacity' in such a way as to minimise the risk of injury and the efforts required
  • Observe improvement in your manual handling skills
  • State the principles of correct lifting technique to minimise risk of injuries
  • Be aware of parts of the body that are at risk injury due to poor handling techniques and recognise common injuries that can occur
  • Better appreciate the risks of manual handling and understand how to hep reduce them in your workplace
  • Recognise your responsibilities and duties as an employer regarding manual handling regulations
  • Carry our risk assessments of manual handling tasks using documents provided

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
