This programme is designed for the operators of Mobile Vertical Scissor lifts and those looking to renew their operator licenses. Those who need to use two or more categories of powered access equipment should attend one of our combined category courses.

Please bring photographic proof of ID and any previous PAL card.

Greenway Training will provide the machinery.  For PPE, candidates need a safety helmet, high viz top, full body restraint harness & lanyard, safety boots and gloves.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and be dressed appropriately in work type clothing and safety footwear (not wellington boots or trainers) and bring a waterproof coat and reading glasses (if required).

Successful candidates will receive the 3A IPAF qualifications, and IPAF Certificate of Training. These will be accessible via the IPAF ePAL app, available on Android and iOS smartphones, which also includes a logbook and safety information. If a physical PAL card and certificate are required these must be arranged with the training department prior to the course start date, at an additional charge of £40 plus VAT.

Classroom
Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space (15m² or 2.5m² per person, whichever is larger) with tables, chairs and wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

Equipment Requirements

A suitable and sufficient Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) must be provided for the practical training session. Before the course, please ensure the following requirements are met:

  • The MEWP must have a current and valid Thorough Examination certificate.
  • The MEWP must have been inspected by a competent person to confirm it is in safe working condition and operates correctly.
  • The machine must be fully operational, fully charged/fuelled, and all required keys must be available.
  • The platform must be clean and free from debris or obstructions.
  • All control panels must be clearly visible, legible, and in good working order.
  • The manufacturer’s operating instructions/manual must be available with the MEWP.
  • Suitable harness anchor points must be provided on the MEWP where required.
  • The machine selected must be appropriate for the training being delivered.

Practical Training Area Requirements

A suitable practical training area must be available for the duration of the practical session.The training area must:

  • Be large enough to safely operate the MEWP and allow completion of the Operator Practical Test Routes as detailed in Section 4 of the IPAF MEWP Training Manual.
  • Provide a central operating area with a minimum radius of 75% of the maximum operating envelope of the specific MEWP being used.
  • Include a suitable workface target positioned at a minimum height of 75% of the MEWP’s maximum platform height.
  • Be cordoned off to prevent access by pedestrians and vehicles during training.
  • Be free from debris, obstructions, and overhead hazards.
  • Be available for the entire afternoon session without interruption.
  • Be a suitable environment where the instructor can communicate clearly with all participants.

Please ensure all requirements are in place before the course commencement to allow the training to run safely and effectively.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English. Exam papers are available in a large range of languages.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
