This one and a half day LANTRA Awards ‘Safe Use of Aluminium Phosphide for Vertebrate Pest Control’ qualification is aimed at anyone who wishes to control vertebrates using aluminium phosphide in a commercial environment and is suitable for pest control operatives, farmers, gamekeepers and green keepers.Aluminium phosphide is a dangerous compound. Used incorrectly, it can be hazardous to the health and safety of users, the general public and non-target animals. Our course will provide you with a full working knowledge of the relevant commercial products and application equipment.

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

It's ideal for anyone using aluminium phosphide in a commercial environment, such as pest control operatives, farmers, gamekeepers and greenkeepers.

Please bring photographic proof of ID and Lantra ID number (if held).

Greenway Training will provide the equipment.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start.

Candidates need to be dressed appropriately in work type clothing and bring a waterproof coat and wellington or work type boots and reading glasses if required.

Your competence in the activity will be assessed through practical observation and short answer questioning.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical element of this course, we will require a dry covered space for the maintenance of the commercial products and application equipment for this course, together with a large outdoor space for setting and use of the equipment.

For PPE, candidates will need a high viz top and nitrile safety gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • Recognise the symptoms of phosphine poisoning
  • Apply technical and operational controls to avoid exposure
  • Identify target animals and undertake a survey to determine their presence
  • Interpret product labels
  • Know how to apply a treatment safely and effectively
  • Retain appropriate records.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
