Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

This is a refresher course for experienced operators that have previously undertaken training. The HSE advise that training should take place every 3 years for occassional users and every 5 years for frequent users.

Certificates to evidence prior training or completion of our driver declaration form.
Photographic proof of ID and Lantra ID number (if held).

Greenway Training will provide the machinery.

Candidates need to complete and return operator assessment form to confirm they have 100+ hours experience within the last 12 months or hold a current certification.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and be dressed appropriately in work type clothing including toughened work trousers and safety footwear (not wellington boots or trainers) and bring a waterproof coat and reading glasses if required.

Please note refresher courses will not cover all aspects in the same detail as a course of a longer duration.

Lantra "training only" course. This Lantra-certified course that focuses on imparting knowledge and skills through training without a formal assessment. Unlike courses leading to a full qualification, these programs provide a certificate of completion, but the learner is not tested for a specific qualification or accreditation. They are a great option for formal refresher trianing.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical element of this course, we will require a tractor with front loader which is fully fuelled [make and model confirmed ahead of course] together with an arrangement of attachments, full operator manual to hand and current LOLER certificate.

In addition, we will require a covered area for the maintenance of the tractor and attachments for the practical including: Trailer for manoeuvring and reversing practice, this can be small or big; hard standing area for manoeuvring practice; possibly a field area that can be mown; if the candidates would like to cover fore-end loaders then 'material' will be needed to shovel up.

For PPE, candidates will need a high viz top and safety gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • Perform a risk assessment
  • Mount and dismount safely
  • Understand the purpose and meaning of the instrumentation
  • Understand the function of all controls
  • Understand the hazards associated with using controls
  • Understand the reasons for daily checks
  • Start and stop the engine in a safe manner
  • Be competent in driving a tractor in a forward and reverse direction
  • Leave the tractor in a safe state
  • Competently perform checking of the lubrication, cooling and air intake of the engine, perform basic lubrication of the tractor and ensure the tractor is in a safe road going state
  • Attach a mounted implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction
  • Attach a trailed implement and manoeuvre in a forward and reverse direction
  • Leave unattached implements in a safe state
  • Correctly attach a PTO shaft between tractor and implement
  • Attach the PTO shaft guards correctly
  • Assess the minimum turning circle of the machine and the angle of the PTO shaft.
  • Carry out basic operations using tractor mounted loader. "

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
  • >16 years old
  • Prior training or evidence experience by completing & subitting our Driver Declaration Form
