Course information

You will need to make your own provision for lunch. Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available all day.

This course is aimed at anyone using professional pesticide products in industries like agriculture, horticulture, and forestry. It's designed for anyone who uses hand-held applicators as part of their work.

Please forward you PA1 & PA6 (or equivalents) Certificates
Please bring photographic proof of ID and Lantra ID number (if held).

Greenway Training will provide the equipment.

Candidates need to hold a PA1 & PA6 certification in order to be able to attend.

Candidates should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled course in preparation for a prompt start and be dressed appropriately in work type clothing and bring a waterproof coat, wellington boots and reading glasses if required.

Please note refresher courses will not cover all aspects in the same detail as a course of a longer duration.

Lantra "training only" course. This Lantra-certified course that focuses on imparting knowledge and skills through training without a formal assessment. Unlike courses leading to a full qualification, these programs provide a certificate of completion, but the learner is not tested for a specific qualification or accreditation. They are a great option for formal refresher trianing.

Additional information

Please email the office with a site contact name, number and what3words reference. Please inform us of any site security requirements one week prior to your course.

Please ensure there is a dry and warm classroom type space with wifi connection and full access to w.c. facilities.

For the practical, please ensure that there is a knapsack [min. X1 per two candidates] available for both the training and practical element of this course. We will also require a covered area for maintenance and calibration of the knapsack together with a large outdoor space for the practical, an area of at least 50m X 25m.

For PPE, candidates will need spray coveralls, measuring jugs, wellington boots, 30cm nitrile gloves.

Once complete, learners will be able to;

  • Understand your duties under the law and become a safe and competent pesticide user
  • Understand what pesticides are and their ‘field of use’
  • State legislation relevant to pesticide application
  • Interpret and use label information
  • Take the appropriate action to protect yourself and the environment
  • Store and transport pesticides safely
  • Dispose of the pesticides and containers safely
  • Record information
  • Identify and describe how hand held applicators work
  • Identify and select nozzles for various applications
  • Achieve the required spray quality
  • Carry out pre-start checks
  • Calibrate the applicator
  • Mix and fill applicator accurately and safely
  • Operate the applicator safely and efficiently in various situations
  • Prevent environmental hazards
  • Decontaminate and store equipment.

Pre requisites for this course

  • The ability to read and comprehend English.
  • Due to the nature of the training a minimum level of fitness will be required for specific operations. Whilst we would not want to disadvantage you as a learner, it is an essential requirement.
